Acute leukemia are clonal malignant hematopoietic disorders resulting from genetic alterations in normal hematopoietic stem cells. A blood test can suggest leukemia, but it usually takes a bone marrow test to confirm the diagnosis. As the disease progresses, leukemic cells accumulate in the bone marrow, blood, and organs, displacing normal progenitor cells and suppressing normal hematopoiesis.
